The Medical Camp by Group 91 highly successful

The medical camp organized by the Group 91 of The Dharmaraja Old Boys Union at Haputtenne Temple at Deva Junction Hunnasgiriya on 11th December 2005 concluded very successfully.

The key to the success was the support received from the Rev Ranthanasara Thero The incumbent of the temple and the Jansetha Organisation comprising of the students from Daham Pasala. Further Mr Nissanka(An Old Rajan ) and Mr Rohitha the Wild Life Conservation officers of the area also assisted us in many ways.

The event started off with group 91 members starting the journey to Hunnasgiriya with our own brothers who are serving as Doctors with medicine stock from Kandy. We arrived at the Temple at around 9.30am and back packed the goods to the temple which was not motor able. The necessary arrangements were in place at the Temple and we started the consulting and dispensary shortly.

Dr Deepal Bandaranayake, Dr Chaminda Hearth, Dr Karunawansha all from our group 91 and Dr Jagath Herath an Old Rajan , Mr Kappagoda – Pharmacist and 91 group member and Mr Jayasena – Medical Crew Kandy Hospital – 91 group member were busy serving the patients.

Around 10.30am the Mobile Dental Surgery of The Central Province arrived as arranged with two Dentists and One Nurse. The Dental Surgery operated near the road since the vehicle could not arrive at the temple. This was a very needy service for the children of the village.

The Patients were given with free Soap, Tooth Brush and Personal Care products and a drink of Marmite by the courtesy of Unilevers Ltd, and a free Cerelac pack with the sponsorship of Nestle Ltd.

The Camp served nearly 300 patients and issued free medicine. Some cases were referred to the General Hospitals which needed through investigation and treatment.

Lunch and tea was provided for the staff and the organisers by the Villagers. The Camp concluded around 4.30pm after a brief meeting with Rev Rathnasara Thero and others.
